Restylane

In 1996, the biotechnology company Q-Med of Sweden created a genetically engineered version of hyaluronic acid (Restylane and Perlane). Juvederm

What is Juvederm?

Juvederm is an injectable hyaluronic acid gel that restores skin volume and smoothes away folds like “smile lines” and wrinkles around the mouth and cheeks.

What is hyaluronic acid?

It is a naturally occurring substance found in all humans so allergy testing is not necessary. The filler will hydrate and add volume to your skin. It is FDA approved for this purpose and has been used for more than 20 years for other indications like injection into arthritis to aid movement and in eye surgeries and wound repair.

What is the treatment like?

The process takes only about 15 minutes. The injection is directly into the skin using a very fine needle to reduce discomfort. Prior to the procedure a mild numbing cream can be applied.
